When the Grass Seems Greener

I love this quote. It speaks straight to my heart. I know it's human nature to compare ourselves to others. Often it's easier to long for what we don't have instead of appreciating what's right in front of us or nurturing the unique opportunities we have.

It reminds me of a line from Desiderata by Max Ehrmann;

"If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself."

It might not feel like the easy route, but practising the following actions will manifest amazing things;

Look for the Opportunities at your feet - this is where you "stop staring & comparing" yourself to what others are doing and examine what opportunities are within your reach. Spend some time thinking about what you really want to accomplish. If you can't see opportunities for yourself, try asking people you trust for feedback and ideas.

Practise Gratitude - switching from a 'complaining' mode to one of gratitude has been scientifically proven to improve health and well-being. Try writing a list of things you're grateful for at the end of each day and watch how this shift in mind-set starts to manifest greater positivity in your daily life.

Focus on what you want to grow - what you focus on grows. So focus your energy on what you want to increase in your life. If you can't focus, try meditating, eliminating distractions, or un-plugging for at least one hour a day. Find a way to bring your love and attention on to what you want to thrive.

You need to plant seeds and tend to them for anything to grow. Whatever seeds or ideas are brewing in your mind, find the patience to focus on them, stop looking at what everyone else is doing, stop complaining about what you don't have. Make your own garden, tend it and watch it flourish."Start watering the grass you're standing on."
